Garmin range app: ShotPace
I made a timed shooting practice app for TAR, TSV, USPSA, Multigun, ICORE, SASS, PRS, silhouette,
benchrest, F-Class, CMP Highpower, muzzle loading, ISSF 25 m, NRA Bullseye, Steel
Challenge, IDPA and free drills, signalled by vibration and tone.
It’s having a load of various disciplines, experimental shoot detection, point count.

Detailed description:
**ShotPace runs the clock so you can keep your eyes on the target.**
Practising alone means there is nobody to call the line. ShotPace gives the commands, times
them exactly, and signals every transition on your wrist, so you never have to look at the
watch during a string.
PERSONAL PRACTICE ONLY. The TAR rulebook forbids connected watches on the firing line in
competition and official training. ShotPace is built for personal practice outside any
official setting. One governing body does permit a device under conditions and the app says
so per discipline, but permission is not endorsement: a Match Director outranks any rulebook,
and your club’s bylaws may be stricter than the federal ones. Check locally.
NINETEEN DISCIPLINES. TAR and TSV, NRA Bullseye, ISSF 25 m, IDPA, USPSA, ICORE, SASS, USPSA
Multigun, PRS, NRA Silhouette, IMSSU Silhouette, F-Class, MLAIC Muzzle Loading, CMP Highpower
Rifle, CMP As-Issued Military Rifle, IBS Benchrest, Steel Challenge, and SimpleShoot: a clock
and a count with no rulebook behind either. Each is built from its own governing body’s book,
with the round counts, durations, targets and penalties that book actually prints. Each
carries a sheet in the app saying where it comes from, whether the figures have been checked,
and what that body says about a watch on the firing line.
CUES YOU CAN FEEL. Every transition vibrates as well as sounds, because behind hearing
protection vibration is the only channel that gets through. Vibration, tone and the flashlight
switch independently, app-wide or per drill, because a range decides what is acceptable.
AFTERWARDS. Score entry that offers only the values the target can produce. History across
every discipline, never totalled or ranked together, because points, hit factors, raw times
and group sizes are not comparable quantities. Statistics per event. A FIT activity in Garmin
Connect for sessions long enough to be one. A glance with your last session.
YOURS TO SET. Every interval the app chose for you is a setting, and restorable. Build your
own drills: copy a catalogue event and change it, or start from nothing.
ENGLISH AND FRENCH THROUGHOUT, except the range commands, which stay in the language that
competition is conducted in. A French shooter running the interface in English still reads
TIREZ; an English speaker still reads Standby and Hit factor in French. Those are the words
someone will shout at you, and the wrong reflex is a safety problem rather than a cosmetic
one.
SHOT DETECTION IS EXPERIMENTAL. The watch can count shots from the recoil impulse in its
accelerometer. It is off by default and behind a limitations screen you have to read. It is
not a certified timer, it will not catch every shot, and no recoil means no detection: air
rifles and 10 m ISSF are outside it by physics. Every count stays editable before it is saved,
and a count never records a score on its own. Do not use it where a score depends on the
count. Connect IQ exposes no microphone on any device, so this is not acoustic detection and
never will be.
PERMISSIONS. Three, and it still runs if you refuse any of them. FIT and FitContributor write
the activity you see in Garmin Connect. Sensor is the accelerometer, used only for detecting
shots by recoil. Nothing leaves the watch: no account, no network call, no telemetry.
